On the 25th of June the book has returned to our school so we could see the final chapter.

The book "Monsters and Fairies" is now finished. We loved doing it. It was really fun. It made us feel really happy as you can see in the photos.
Let's see what comes next year...

Tatiana's Post- EB1/PE do Caniçal





Now that all children, from the three schools, have met, interacted and played together it's time to write another chapter of our book.

This time the children decided to talk about the countries and nationalities in planet Marssi. They have shown the different flags and explained some of the characteristics of each one of those countries.

As planned and previously announced our eTeam's meeting occcoured last 18th April, 2008.The activities were developed as planned and the students seemed to enjoyed it.The meeting was sucessful and the initial goals were achieved.The students had fun, interacted in the foreign language with each other and had a chance to participate in an educational experience away from the usual and traditional school environment.Here are some pictures and a video that shows some of the activities that took place that day.

This week we wrote another chapter of the book in EB1/PE Porto Moniz.
Easter Holidays were over and Shumini returned to its Planet, Tukamina.
Mimi decided to let you know all about the plants in her Planet.
We used our imagination and created different plants (flowers and trees) with strange names.


We even gave strange names to the plants’ parts has you can see in the photo.
We loved doing this. It was funny…

Isabel´s Post - EB1/PE de Água de Pena


On the 29 Th February, EB1/PE de Água de Pena, began to write a new chapter of the book.
After reading the last chapter that talked about animals and a visit to the Zoo, students made the decision of talking about other places of interest in “Pingoo”, Mimi’s city. We decided to talk about means of transport, as well.
On this chapter Mimi invited Shumini to spend Easter Holidays on her Planet! Shumini accepted her invitation! What a great adventure...!
Together, we wrote the texts and illustrated them.
We had lots of fun!

ITS eTeam’s Meeting

Date: 18th April, 2008

· Icebreaker
- Different pictures of monsters and fairies (cut in two), placed in a circle;
- Students must find their pair picture (the missing half), while music is playing.

· Pair Hunt
- While music is playing students must search for their friend pair (whose picture they have received and put together).

· Friend Interview
- Students fill in the identity cards (previously given and prepared) with the friend’s name, school, age and favourite colour;
- After the interview, children stick the IDs on the Friendship Wall.

· Puzzle Construction
- Children are organized in seven groups of seven and one group of six;
- Students put the puzzles together.

· Songs
- Each school group will teach a song to their friends.

· Snack

Tatiana's Post- EB1/PE do Caniçal

EB1/PE do Caniçal has, on the 13th February, 2008, started working on a new chapter of the book.
Students chose to talk about animals and created a visit to the Zoom (that's the word for Zoo, in Marssian (The fairies' language)).
Children have invented different animals and have described them according to their physical features. They decided the story, the characters that should be in it and have illustrated the texts. As a 2nd grade class, there is still no writing from the students.

eTeam's Plan for 2008

As we said before, this year's eTeam project will focus on the Fairies, being developed by two 3rd grades and a 2nd grade.
The group chose to continue the book's structure as a way to include all the contents and linguistic structures that we are supposed to develop during the school year. Contents like Body, Colours, Numbers, Means of Transport, etc., will be developed in this new chapter of "The Monsters' Book ".
As a way to enhance and promote social interaction, between these three schools, we decided to organise a meeting where students will get to know each other, play games and develop several activities, which will improve and consolidate our students' social and linguistic skills.
As a motivation to the meeting, for four weeks, students will receive pieces of a picture which they must put together and stick them on an Identification Card, that teachers will provide. Through this activity they will gradually discover their eTeam friend.

Monsters and Fairies

On the school year 2006-2007 four teachers, from different schools, got together to develop the TEAM Project.
Considering their students characteristics, motivations and after brainstorming, students and teachers came up with the idea of exploring the fantastic Universe of “Monsters and Fairies”.
“Shumini” was born and grew up from the ideas of different students and schools that, week after week, exchanged materials and added more information about him. All this resulted in “Monsters’ Book”.
Aside our “Monsters’ Book”, on the 8th of March,2007, we promoted a “Monsters and Fairies” encounter.
This was a highlight moment of the following process:
· Creation of Monsters and Fairies;
· Baptism of the different creations;
· Transformations of drawings into puzzles;
· Exchange between pairs, students from different schools;
· Puzzle construction.
Our main goal was to involve the students in a foreign language interaction situation, in a free and unconventional way.
With this project we intended to promote linguistic proficiency; stimulate student’s creativity and imagination; develop lexical contents and previously acquired knowledge; enhance social interaction and allow different experiences in a Foreign Language Context.

We decided to maintain last’s year theme “Monsters and Fairies”, as well as its' objectives and goals but with a different approach, focusing more on the fairies’ perspective.
